COLLABORATIVE STORYTELLING: IMAGINING NEW VISUAL WORLDS WITH AI
Workshop by S()fia braga, for ages 16 and up (EN)
This workshop opens up AI-generated moving images as a space for experimentation, transformation, and storytelling. Using locally run, open-source tools, participants will develop video sequences in which text, image, rhythm, and motion come together in unexpected ways.
Through a combination of demonstration and hands-on making, the session explores AI as a creative collaborator. Guided by human intuition, imagination, and decision-making, participants will use these systems to shape atmospheres, unfold narratives, and imagine visual worlds that move between intention and surprise
✦ Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptop to fully engage in the workshop activities; tablets or smartphones may be used as alternatives if necessary.
About S()fia Braga
S()fia Braga is a Vienna-based Italian transmedia artist and film director. Her artistic practice experiments with computational systems to create speculative fabulations, often unfolding within eschatological scenarios that explore human/nonhuman collaboration and interrogate the conditions of agency. Working with machine learning technologies at an early stage in their cultural adoption, she developed AI-mediated moving-image workflows that critically examine the circumstances under which statistical prediction systems participate in aesthetic production and their ethical implications.
In parallel, through data appropriation as a method, Braga formulates the concept of Platform Workshipping and mobilizes the framework of Interveillance, contributing to contemporary debates on algorithmic governance and offering a critical analysis of power and labor within the centralized infrastructures of social media.
Her works span videos, hybrid installations, and transmedia narrative environments unfolding across digital and physical spaces. She and her work have been recognized with numerous awards and grants, including the AI in Art grant from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture, the Art Prize of the City of Linz, the Content Vienna Award, Bank Austria Studios, and the CIFRA Award.
Braga’s works have been featured at renowned institutions and events such as Ars Electronica Festival (AT), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (DE), Kunstforum Wien (AT), Xie Zilong Photography Museum (CN), Short Shorts & Asia Film Festival (JP), Voltaje—Art and Technology Festival (CO), Belvedere 21 (AT), 19th Venice Architecture Biennale (IT), and Pinacoteca Albertina of Turin (IT).
